storage stability
Desmodur RFE must be kept in an airtight container. Whenever product is transferred from one container to another, moisture (including air moisture) must be prevented from entering. Therefore, when small quantities of product are to be used frequently, they should not be removed from large shipping containers, but should be removed from specially designed bottles of appropriate volume.
In addition to the original container, twist jars made of aluminium or glass are particularly suitable for storing Desmodur RFE. Suitable caps include screw caps with gaskets. Gaskets made of materials that release alkaline substances are not suitable.
Storing the product at low temperature will form crystals, but slowly heating (to room temperature) the crystals will dissolve.
product Safety
Desmo is composed of polyisocyanate and ethyl acetate, the former has low volatility and the latter is volatile and flammable. Therefore, precautions suitable for use with flammable organic solvents must be taken. The fumes generated when working with adhesives containing Desmodo RFE must be removed with an exhaust fan to ensure there is no risk of inhalation (see Safety Data Sheet for details).
compatibility
Solvents that can be used to dilute Desmodo RFE are: methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone and toluene. All of these solvents must be free of water and spills.
Purpose
Properly formulated two-component adhesives have a limited pot life after the addition of Desmodo RFE and, therefore, must be used before their expiry date. The pot life described above depends not only on the polymer content of the adhesive, but also on other ingredients such as resins, antioxidants and solvents.
After the pot life expires, which typically lasts from a few hours to a working day, the adhesive becomes increasingly difficult to process, and its viscosity rises rapidly until the formulation eventually gels irreversibly.
