Storage
Storage - Storage in original sealed Covestro container.
- Recommended storage temperature: 0 - 30 °C.
- Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material.
General information: The product is sensitive to moisture. Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity. Storage at significant lower temperatures will result in solidification. This solidification is reversible by briefly heating the product without adversely affecting the quality of the product.
Features and Uses
IPDI is an aliphatic isocyanate, and isophorone diisocyanate IPDI is also a cycloaliphatic isocyanate. Isophorone diisocyanate IPDI has lower reactivity and lower vapor pressure than aromatic isocyanates. The reactivity of the two NCO groups in the IPDI molecule of isophorone diisocyanate is different, because the primary NCO in the IPDI molecule is sterically hindered by the cyclohexane ring and the a-substituted methyl group, which makes the secondary NCO attached to the cyclohexane ring. The reactivity of NCO groups is 1.3-2.5 times higher than that of primary NCOs; the reaction rate of IPDI with hydroxyl groups is 4-5 times faster than that of HDI with hydroxyl groups.
Polyurethane resin made of isophorone diisocyanate IPDI has excellent light stability and chemical resistance. Isophorone diisocyanate IPDI is generally used to manufacture high-grade polyurethane resins such as light-resistant and weather-resistant polyurethane coatings, wear-resistant and hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane The elastomer, isophorone diisocyanate IPDI, can also be used to make non-yellowing microcellular polyurethane foam.
