Silicone defoamer recommended for waterborne pigment concentrates for coatings, printing inks and overcoat varnishes. It prevents foaming during grinding and provides long-term and shear stability. Particularly suitable for resin-free grinding.

Application field
(1) Coating industry
a. Product features and advantages
BYK-019 is particularly suitable for waterborne coating systems of polyurethane dispersions and polyurethane/acrylate composite dispersions as well as pigment concentrates. To reduce microbubbles, it is recommended to mix BYK-019 with BYK-024 in a ratio of 3:2.
b. Recommended dosage
0.1-1 % Auxiliary dosage (as purchased) is based on the total formulation.
c. Joining methods and processing instructions
Due to the high degree of incompatibility of the auxiliaries, the defoamer must be added under high shear to ensure good dispersion. Otherwise, system defects may be caused.
(2) Printing ink and overcoat varnish
a. Product features and advantages
BYK-019 is particularly suitable for waterborne finish varnishes based on acrylate dispersions, polyurethane dispersions and polyurethane/acrylate composite dispersions, as well as for defoaming of pigment concentrates. To reduce microfoam, a 3:2 ratio of BYK-019 to BYK-024 proved to be very effective in pigment concentrates.
b. Recommended use
The additive is particularly suitable for aqueous and UV systems.
c. Recommended dosage
