Based on blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate IPDI.
Combined with hydroxyl-functional polyols, especially Desmophen®T series hydroxyl polyesters, for lightfast one-pack polyurethane stoving systems, especially for coil or can coating applications. At the same time, it is used as an additive in traditional baking recipes to increase its adhesion and flexibility. Features/Applications
Desmodur® BL 2078/2 was developed as a curing agent for lightfast one-component polyurethane stoving systems, as long as it is used for coil and can coating applications.
Cross-linking with equivalent Desmophen® T1775 (BNCO:OH=1.0:1.0) can achieve the balance of hardness and flexibility in the formulation of corrosion-resistant coil primer and weather-resistant coil finish. The required baking temperature can be reduced by adding 0.5~1.0% DBTL without affecting the storage stability of the final coating. When the maximum sheet metal temperature (PMT) reaches 232°C, both the primer and topcoat can reach a dry film thickness of 50 μm, so the film thickness of the two-coat system can reach 100 μm.
This product can be combined with hydroxy polyesters such as Desmophen® T1775, as well as with phenolic, melamine, benzene melamine resins for high flexibility and antimicrobial coating formulations that can be heated to 200 degrees for 12 minutes.
For packaging coating formulations that are also suitable for food contact, our recommended mixing system is: Desmophen® T1775/ SFC112/ Cymel® 1123/ Desmodur® BL 2078/2 (mass ratio: 50:20:25:5).
compatibility
Desmodur® BL 2078/2 is generally compatible with hydroxy polyols, especially with Desmophen® T series hydroxy polyesters, melamine resins such as Maprenal® MF904, MF915, Cymel® 202, 325, 327, benzoic melamine resins such as Cymel® 1123, Phenolic resins such as SFC112 and mixtures of the above. Compatibility with possible mixtures however needs to be tested beforehand.
Solubility/Dilution
Desmodur® BL 2078/2 can be diluted to 35% solids with esters, ketones, ether esters, ether alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons and such as Solvesso® 100, 150ND and 200ND. This product cannot be diluted with aliphatic hydrocarbons. Both compatibility and stability of diluted solutions need to be tested.

- Recommended storage temperature: 0-30°C.
- Avoid moisture, heat and foreign substances.
General Information: Storage at higher temperatures will result in increased color and viscosity.
Storage at lower temperatures can cause solidification. The solidified body can be reduced by slight heating without affecting its quality.

Provided that the product has been stored in full compliance with the requirements in the "Storage" clause above and handled properly, the product meets the specifications stated in the "Specifications or Characteristic Values" clause above for a period of 6 months from the date of shipment stated on the shipping document or characteristic value (as applicable). The fact that a product exceeds the 6-month period above does not mean that it no longer meets the specifications or the values set in the characteristic values. However, it is recommended that products older than 6 months from the date of shipment be tested prior to use to confirm that they still meet the values set in the specifications or characteristic values.
