Solubility / dilution
Bayhydrol® A2470 can be diluted with water in any ratio.
compatibility
n the preparation of waterborne two-component polyurethane systems, the following products are suitable as coreactants for this product: Desmodur® N3400, N3600 or N3900, Bayhydur® 3100, 304, 305, 401-70, VP LS 2150BA, XP 2487/1 or XP 2655.
Features/Applications
Bayhydrol® A2470 is a hydroxyl functional polyacrylic acid dispersion that can be diluted with water to application viscosity. The viscosity of this product is mainly dependent on pH. The pH may decrease during storage, resulting in a decrease in viscosity. The viscosity can be restored to its original value by adding a small amount of 10% dimethylethanolamine in water.
Bayhydrol® A2470 can be mixed with aliphatic polyisocyanates to produce high gloss topcoats which can be dried at room temperature or force dried (eg at 80°C). The cured film has high hardness and excellent solvent, water and weather resistance. The direct application of Bayhydrol® A2470 varnish on wood substrates can cause discoloration. When properly formulated, eg with Bayhydur® 304 (1.5:1 NCO/OH ratio), its pot life is approximately 4 hours. Bayhydrol® A2470 has good pigment wetting and high shear stability. Experiments have shown that ball mills are suitable for use as grinding equipment. Only pigments and fillers with little water-soluble content can be used. Considering the wide variety of pigments and fillers available, compatibility testing should be carried out before use. When Bayhydur or Desmodur is mixed with the base, a thickener must be added to ensure good shear. The Bayhydrol® A2470 formulation proved to be suitable for the addition of approximately 0.4% Borchigen® PW25 (on a solids basis). Additions such as Byk® 380 improve levelling and substrate wetting. Experiments have shown that Byk® 011 is a suitable defoamer. Coating and formulation equipment can be cleaned with water, alkaline cleaners or isopropyl alcohol.
store
- Store in original Covestro airtight containers.
- Recommended storage temperature: >0–30℃
- Avoid freezing, heat and foreign substances.
General Information: Short cooling to -18°C usually does not damage the product, but the viscosity may be greatly reduced. Prolonged freezing can severely damage the product. Long-term storage at higher temperatures can result in a decrease in viscosity or an increase in average particle size, possibly resulting in precipitation or coagulation. The viscosity of this product is mainly dependent on pH. The pH may decrease during storage, resulting in a decrease in viscosity. The viscosity can be restored to its original value by adding a small amount of 10% dimethylethanolamine in water. Can render the product unusable due to contamination with certain bacteria, molds or algae.
storage time
Covestro declares that, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the requirements in the "Storage" clause above and handled properly, the product complies with the above "specification or characteristic value" for a period of 6 months from the date of shipment stated on the shipping document Specifications or characteristic values stated in the Terms (as applicable). Exceeding the above 6-month period does not mean that a product no longer meets the specifications or the values set in the characteristic values. However, Covestro recommends that products older than 6 months from the date of shipment be tested prior to use to confirm that they still meet the specifications or set values in the characteristic values. Covestro makes no commitments for products older than 6 months from the date of shipment, and accepts no responsibility or liability for non-conformance of specifications or set values in characteristic values.
