For use in aqueous systems, Additol XL 180 is best neutralized with an amine compound (preferably triethylamine). For alkyd or acrylic stoving paints Additol XL 180 increases intercoat adhesion and flexibility for electrodeposition primers and white paints, but in a single coat on iron and aluminum, Additol XL 180 appears to be Not as effective. Additol XL 180 and its salts can be combined with nonionic and anionic surfactants, but compatibility with cationic species should be checked individually to prevent the interaction from flocculating and reducing gloss.
