Cross-linking
Basonat® HB series can be used to crosslink most hydroxy acrylic resins, as well as hydroxy polyesters.
Dilution tolerance
Basonat® HB series can be diluted with ester solvents such as butyl acetate, ketone solvents such as methyl ethyl ketone, glycol ether esters such as propylene glycol acetate, or aromatic solvents such as Solvesso® 100 or xylene. Basonat® HB series is not recommended to be diluted to less than 40% isocyanate, otherwise turbidity, flocculation, and precipitation may occur during storage. Different storage conditions will result in different storage stability of the product.
application
Basonat® HB series can be used to formulate coatings with high light and weather resistance. Aliphatic isocyanates can sometimes be used as primers on different substrates such as aluminum, various plastics, polymers, etc.
Basonat® HB 100 can be used in cases where Basonat® HB 175MP/X solvent is not suitable. (eg aromatic solvents can dissolve polystyrene)
Proportion .
Calculate the theoretically equivalent amount of isocyanate required for cross-linking. Taking Basonat® HB100 and Macrynal® SM 636 as examples, the calculation formula is as follows: 0.075 [OH value] * [Hydroxy resin solid content] / [NCO]
Example: Macrynal® SM 636
Solid content of hydroxyl resin % |
70 |
OH value |
135 |
Basonat® HB 100, NCO% |

0.075×70×135 /22=32.2
The amount of curing agent required for 100 grams of Macrynal® SM 636: Basonat® HB 100 32.2 grams, Basonat® HB 175 MP/X 43.0 grams It must be noted that any solvents, pigments and other additives in the formula do not contain active hydroxyl groups , for example: water.
safety warning
Basonat® HB series are reactive and functional isocyanates containing trace amounts of hexamethylene diisocyanate, so adequate protection measures are required in application. They can only be used in industrial and professional fields and are not suitable for DIY operations. When applying these products, the information and recommendations in the Product Safety Data Sheet should be consulted in advance. In addition, the application site should have adequate hygiene and protection measures.
