Solubility / dilution
Generally speaking, Desmodur IL 1451 has good compatibility with esters (such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, 1-methoxypropyl acetate and 2-methyl ethyl ketone, etc.); it is compatible with aromatic hydrocarbons (such as toluene) , xylene, Solvesso® 100 and Shellsol® A) also have good compatibility, however, the storage stability of the resulting solutions must be tested. Incompatible with petroleum solvents. Alcohols are reactive with Desmodur IL 1451 and should not be used. Only use polyurethane grade solvents (<0.05% water). These solvents must be free of reactive contaminants. Long-term storage of solutions with low resin content can cause turbidity and precipitation.
compatibility
Desmophen IL 1451 is compatible with Desmophen® A 450, many polyester-based Desmodo grades, and many alkyd resins, and can also be blended with nitrocellulose. Desmodos IL 1451 is more compatible than standard TDI-polyisocyanurate products in critical blends.
Desmodos IL 1451 can be mixed with Desmodos L, Desmodos HL and Desmodos N grades. In individual cases, Desmodos IL 1451 must be tested for compatibility with other formulation components.
application
The characteristics of the two-component polyurethane coating based on Desmodo IL 1451 are fast surface drying and initial sandability, which is the most suitable for finishing in the wood and furniture industry. An isocyanato group (NCO)/hydroxyl (OH) ratio of, for example, 0.5 to 0.7 is particularly recommended, depending on the reactivity and hardness of the polyol. If an NCO/OH ratio of 1:1 is used, Desmodur IL 1451 must be mixed with Desmodur L. In this case, the optimum mixing ratio of Desmodos L/IL 1451 must be adjusted to suit the polyol hardness and the desired drying time. Due to the low viscosity and high activity of Desmodo IL 1451, it produces highly polymeric, clear or pigmented finishes that can be applied quickly between passes.
store
Desmodur IL 1451 is sensitive to moisture. Therefore, it must be kept in the original sealed container. The recommended storage temperature is 0-30°C. Storage at higher temperatures will result in an increase in viscosity. Desmodo IL 1451 will remain stable for at least half a year if stored under suitable conditions.
safety
Special care must be taken when handling this product due to its solvent and isocyanate content.
This product is flammable, therefore, the container containing the product must be kept away from fire. Measures to prevent electrostatic interference should be taken, and the product must be handled in an explosion-proof workshop.
It is recommended to wear safety goggles and protective gloves to avoid skin and eye contact with this product or inhalation of its vapor.
When spraying, the respiratory organs must be protected from spray damage, so wear a respirator.
If the diisocyanate monomer content of this product is less than 0.15%, the hazard of causing irritation when inhaled is very low. In individual cases, allergic reactions may occur.
